|Family Letter - 10/16/18||
October 16, 2018
Dear St. Pius X Families & Community,
We begin another great week of learning here at St. Pius X School—it’s short due to conferences—so we will certainly make the most of it. There are many things to be grateful for; here are a few:
Occasionally, I will be highlighting updates made to our School Handbook in our family newsletter. For this week, I will highlight Telephone Use: all messages, lunches and homework must be left at the main office. Those who forget assignments, permission slips, or anything else pertaining to school or class work may not call home. Parents should not text students during the day as students are not allowed to use their cell phones from 8:30AM – 3:20 PM. If you have questions or concerns about telephone use, please contact me directly. The update reflects our commitment to helping your child be an active and engaged learner who arrives prepared each day for school.
Finally, please remember conferences are this week: early dismissal at noon on Wednesday, and no school Thursday and Friday. Teachers are ready to meet and discuss with you both your child’s progress, but also your child’s MAP data. All students in grades K thru 8 participated in the Fall MAP tests this year. The Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) test is a state-aligned computerized adaptive assessment program that provides educators with the information they need to improve teaching and learning and make student-focused, data-driven decisions. MAP tests are adaptive tests taken on the computer, aligned to Common Core, and measures growth over time. The student results are reported in RIT units which is an equal-interval scale much like feet and inches on a yardstick. The MAP test results are reported in RIT scores which show how much academic growth happened throughout the year in certain subjects. Kindergarten and first grade had two tests—Math and Reading—while 2nd thru 8th grades were administered four tests—Math, Reading, Language Usage and Science test.
