First Grade News

Star Student

This week our star student is Betty. Next week our star student will be Kayla. The star student will complete an “All About Me” poster and be the line leader for the week.

Literacy

This week we have learned words with final –ng and final –nk (example: song and bank). We have also learned about compound words. Students will be practicing comprehension skills by learning about plot and writing a summary.

Math

In math we are working on chapter 6 titled, Time. Students have learned about time to the hour and to the half hour. This week students will learn about the days of the week and the months of the year using a calendar.

Religion

We have completed chapter 13. The faith focus of chapter 13, titled Jesus Calls Apostles, is that Jesus invites everyone to help him. This week we began chapter 14. The faith focus of chapter 14, titled Jesus Shows God’s Love, is that Jesus, who healed and forgave people, asks us to show his love today.

Science

In Science we continue to work on our tropical rainforest unit. Students have learned where the tropical rainforests are located around the world. They have also learned about the characteristics of the rainforest layers (forest floor, understory, canopy, emergent layer).
