Dear Families,
The weather certainly put a damper on our week. I enjoy snow, but I think we have had too much of a good thing. It has allowed me to get caught up on school work and work at home.
We are preparing for First Reconciliation which will take place on Saturday March 3rd at 10:30 in the church. Those students who are baptized in the Catholic faith will be receiving this sacrament. Parents whose children are baptized Catholics are required to attend a parent meeting for Reconciliation on Thursday January 26th at 7:00 in the Social Hall of the Church. If your student was not baptized at St. Pius X Church please bring a copy of your student’s baptismal certificate to school or to the parent meeting. All students will receive a copy of the Act of Contrition to memorize at home. Memorizing prayers is part of our religion instruction.
In honor of Martin Luther King Day we wrote poems honoring a personal hero. Some poems are displayed in the case outside the classroom. The remaining poems are displayed in the classroom. We read about Dr. King and discussed the ways that he helped change life in
Mrs. Monica continues to enrich our art knowledge and skills. She helped the students make beautiful cut-out Nativity pictures. After the break, she began instruction in drawing with the students.
In social studies we are finishing Theme 3 in our book. This chapter covers People at Work. Concepts in this chapter include wants and needs, jobs in our communities, goods and services. We have discussed basic economic concepts such as earning money to pay for wants and needs.
The science experiments are moving from rolling wheels to rolling spheres. The students will be working with foam runways and marbles. This will be the last part in our study of Balance and Motion.
In reading we continue to study verbs. We are expanding our study to include the verb to be. Its forms include is, am, are, was, were, be and been. We are working on using the correct form of the verb to match the tense of the sentence.
In math we will finish Chapter 5 on 2-digit addition. Our test will take place after our next 5 days of instruction. Please continue to encourage practice of math facts. Our next chapter will be the study of 2-digit subtraction. Speed in subtraction facts will be very helpful as we progress in our math lessons.
Thank you for all you do for your student.
