2nd Grade News
May 1, 2012
Dear Families,
The First Communion banners and family letters are due to me by May 9th if your child is receiving First Communion this year. The picture packets which were sent home last week in the family folder are also due May 9th.
We are finishing our religion lessons covering the parts of the Mass. We study the Mass in sections to help the children to understand what is happening during the celebration of the Mass and why we pray the way we do. This will give the students a better understanding of the Mass before they receive First Eucharist.
We have taken a break this week from social studies to finish some projects for Sci-Ma-Tech. Please come Thursday May 3rd between 6:30 and 7:30 to look at our classroom and other classroom displays. We have beetles in the classroom now, so we have 3 life stages of the darkling beetle to observe. The ladybug larvae have turned to pupae and two have hatched to adult ladybugs. We labeled body parts for insects and will take a test on the parts.
Our ABC insect books are being assembled this week and will be out for you to enjoy. We have written an insect poem this week also.
Our reading continues to improve with each experience. I read Fractions = Trouble to the class as a read aloud. I will be requesting its sequel from the library.
In math we have completed Chapter 8 and will be studying measurement in the next chapter. We will be using metric measurement and standard measurement units.
I have enclosed 2 Scholastic magazines. Orders from these magazines will be due back to me by Tuesday May 22nd. You may order online using the code GYV9C.
Thank you for all you do for your student.
Mrs. Louise Moynihan
