3rd Grade News
April 17, 2012
Dear Third Grade Families,
I hope that all of you enjoyed your Spring Break and had a wonderful Easter with your Family! The students have been busy telling me about all the exciting things they did. This week we are starting to write a personal narrative about one of the things they did on Spring Break. I am looking forward to reading all of them!
In math, we are moving forward to division. We will continue to do some multiplication practice in class, but it is up to the students to continue to practice at home. They must have all their facts memorized, so that they can better understand division. Please let me know if you need flash cards to help them practice!
The students are all reading a classroom novel, Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo. They will be reading independently, with a partner, and whole class. This is a very exciting unit because we get to practice all the reading strategies we have learned in class, look up new vocabulary in a dictionary, and complete a character study. In addition, this week the students will be choosing a fiction book from the library this week to complete a book report project at home. More details on this will be coming home later this week.
This week we are learning all about Earth Day, and how recycling is important for our planet. The students will all be making and writing a pledge about what they can do to protect and give back to our planet. Next week, we are starting a new science unit on the human body. We focus on dental health, nutrition, and some of the different systems that make up our bodies.
Next week I will also be starting the Talking about Touch program.
God Bless,
Mrs. Rebecca Ditter
