Our parish was erected by His Excellency, the Most Reverend Thomas A. Connolly, Archbishop of Seattle, in June 1955. The Archbishop announced the new parish would be named St. Pius X with the Rev. Laurence O'Larey for its first pastor. Work was begun immediately to build a permanent Church, school and convent.

Photo of Nuns arriving at King Street Station in 1956In August of 1956, the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary arrived at King Street Station (pictured here) to assume the teaching duties at St. Pius X school. Eventually a new church was built in 1985 and the old church became the gymnasium for the school. The old rectory on 56th Avenue was replaced by a newer rectory, located next to the church. Our latest construction is the parish office.

After Rev. O'Larey died in 1964, Rev. John J. Horan was pastor until 1976 when our present Pastor, Rev. Sean P. Fox was assigned to our parish. Our Parochial Vicar, Rev. Ronald Knudsen, was assigned for the second time to our parish in 1998.

On September 2, 2008, one of our teaching nuns, Sister Teresa Mary Murphy passed away in Dubuque, Iowa. Sister Mary Isidora Lorentz, also a teacher and librarian at St. Pius X School, passed away on February 17, 2008. We are pleased to post her memoirs here: The Autobiography of Sister Mary Isidora Lorentz. (Adobe Reader is needed; you may download the program by clicking the link in the column to the left.)
