Liturgical Year

The liturgical year is an annual cycle of our celebration of God's gift of salvation through His son, Jesus Christ. The Sundays and weekdays of the year fall into periods of "ordinary" time between Advent & Christmas when we celebrate the birth of Jesus, and Lent & Easter when we remember His death and resurrection. By the sacrifice of his life on a cross, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, obtained the gift of eternal life in Heaven for us. Our entire year revolves around the mystery of Christ; "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life." John 3:16

The Liturgical Year 2008:

  • Advent: December 2 to December 24, 2007
  • Christmas: December 25, 2007 to January 12, 2008
  • Ordinary Time: January 13 to February 5, 2008
  • Lent: February 6 (Ash Wednesday) to March 22, 2008
  • Easter: March 23 (Resurrection of Jesus) to May 11, 2008 (Pentecost)
  • Ordinary Time: May 12 to November 29, 2008

The Liturgical Year 2009:

  • Advent: November 30 to December 24, 2008
  • Christmas: December 25, 2008 to January 11, 2009
  • Ordinary Time: January 12 to February 24, 2009
  • Lent: February 25 (Ash Wednesday) to April 11, 2009
  • Easter: April 12 (Resurrection of Jesus) to May 31, 2009 (Pentecost)
  • Ordinary Time: June 1 to November 28, 2009
